About Hank
Hank Hansen is a drummer/percussionist, composer, and audio engineer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he began private lessons on the drums and piano at age nine and was a member of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and percussion ensemble throughout high school. As a teenager, he studied classical percussion privately with Arthur Press of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and drum set with Alan Dawson. Like many others before him, he found his classical percussion technique brought him greater depth to his approach in contemporary music on the drum set. Selected through national auditions, Hank was also a member of the Young Artists Orchestra at Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. This summer residency was filled with rehearsals, performances, and private study with members of the BSO. By the age of 18, he had performed extensively throughout the northeast U.S. and in France, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, and Yugoslavia (now Croatia).
Excited by the sounds and developments in contemporary music and music technology, Hank chose to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where he earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Synthesis. After 2 years of gigging in Boston and a day job at a music software company, Hank left for Florida to earn his Associate of Science degree in Recording Engineering at Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts.
Returning to the Boston area and working as a freelance audio engineer, Hank’s degrees and technical troubleshooting skills were eventually tapped as a technical support engineer for OSC who were the developers of the pro audio industry’s first multitrack digital audio workstation software called “DECK”. Working remotely from Boston, he was relocated to San Francisco when OSC was acquired by Macromedia (now a part of Adobe Systems) where he went on to manage multimedia software support operations.
Hank is currently involved in music and production projects in the San Francisco Bay Area and likes being on and in the water.
